Motion Facts and Information

  1. To avoid motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Face leeward (so if you vomit, it gets blown away from the ship, not into it).

  2. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Age, Children suffer more from motion sickness than adults and usually adults over 50 rarely suffer from motion sickness

  3. Acupressure may reduce symptoms of sea sickness. Use "Sea Bands" as commercially available.

  4. Motion sickness or sea sickness is usually just a minor annoyance and does not signify any serious medical illness, but some travelers are incapacitated by it, and a few even suffer symptoms for a few days after the trip.

  5. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; if you're not sure you are prone to seasickness, try reading a newspaper while in a moving car. If you have no problem with that, the chances are you should have no problem with ships either.

  6. One theory of motion sickness focuses on sensory conflict. Cruise ship passengers are far more likely to get seasick when below because their vestibular sense detects motion while their eyes reveal motionless surroundings.

  7. The standard advice for seasickness is to get up on deck where visual input agrees with vestibular input. Likewise, studies have shown that a child is far less likely to experience car sickness when in an elevated child seat that provides a good outside view.

  9. Trip ease may be taken with any other medication. Like other homeopathic remedies, trip ease is most effective when taken separately from food and drink, but has been specially formulated so that it may if necessary be taken in association with food and/or drink, i.e. coffee.
