Motion Facts and Information

  1. Acupressure bands have started appearing in pilot shops and catalogs. These are elastic bands with protrusions that apply pressure to the wrist, stimulating the median nerve in the fashion of acupuncture.

  2. Not everyone who suffers from motion sickness feels giddy or faint but a lot still suffer from this symptom.

  3. Motion sickness is the nausea, disorientation and fatigue that can be induced by head motion. The first sign is usually pallor. Yawning, restlessness and a cold sweat forming on the upper lip or forehead often follow. As symptoms build, an upset stomach, fatigue or drowsiness may occur. The final stages are characterized by nausea and vomiting.

  4. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Take one of the varieties of motion sickness medicines before your travel begins, as recommended by your physician.

  5. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Conflicting Messages, One message or signal comes from the middle (or inner) ear that controls balance and the other message comes from the eyes. During changes in position caused by travel these two signals conflict or disagree. Or seen another way, reading a book the view remains stable while the body is twisted and turned during travel. These two signals end up at the nausea center of the brain and with such confusion is it a surprise that motion sickness is the result.

  6. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Age, Children suffer more from motion sickness than adults and usually adults over 50 rarely suffer from motion sickness

  7. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Pre Trip, Many times the previous 24 hours are the reason for motion sickness not the journey itself. Hangovers, over tiredness, anxiety, minor illnesses all contribute to motion sickness. A heavy meal, full of fat and possibly over spiced does not help either. Too many carbonated and or alcoholic drinks can unsettle your stomach which will make you more sensitive to motion sickness during the journey. Therefore if you are not fit, rested and healthy you will probably suffer more motion sickness than you usually do.

  8. One tablet of trip ease should be taken at the start of each trip, and one every hour while the problem persists.

  9. Air sickness is more problematic for motion sickness, however. An outside view doesn't necessarily help in aviation, because flight constantly presents sensory conflicts. During a coordinated turn, for example, our eyes show a tilted horizon while our vestibular sense says we're perfectly upright. Uncoordinated maneuvers and turbulence provide even more complex conflicts. In a cloud, we may receive all sorts of vestibular sensations while our eyes report a featureless, horizon less void.

  10. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Racial and Genetic Differences
