Motion Facts and Information

  1. Motion Sickness is a syndrome that occurs in some people when they travel in a vehicle such as an automobile, airplane, or ship. Its symptoms include nausea, dizziness, vomiting, drowsiness, pallor, and sweating. Why some people experience motion sickness and others don't, is uncertain.

  2. Take steps to prevent motion sickness, seasickness, or altitude sickness before your next trip. Avoid reading while traveling, Focus on the view outside, Be the driver; the one in control is less likely to experience motion sickness, Get plenty of fresh air, Avoid eating or drinking heavily, Look for a seat or cabin near the center of the vehicle, where it moves the least.

  3. Motion sickness causes reduced blood flow and this in turn reduces the body temperature making the sufferer feel cold and clammy.

  4. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Vomiting, this mechanism is usually for getting rid of bad food from the stomach, but in the case of motion sickness there is usually no bad food in the stomach, therefore after vomiting there is not the usual relief and the suffer still feels sick and miserable.

  5. There are essentially three strategies to treatment of motion sickness: Behavioral (avoidance, mental activities), Medication (conventional, alternative), Stimulation (alternative)

  6. Beer for motion sickness or sea sickness: Beer initially may keep you well hydrated and also has a sedating effect (not many people have nausea or vomiting while asleep). But the bad effect is that it may eventually cause dehydration. Remember drinking beer may eventually make you pee like a racehorse.

  7. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Age, Children suffer more from motion sickness than adults and usually adults over 50 rarely suffer from motion sickness

  8. SEA Bands are an excellent drug free alternative to chemical travel sickness medication. The bands cause no side effects and are absolutely safe for children and adults.

  9. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Do not drink alcoholic beverages for several hours before a dive. Alcohol tends to dehydrate the body. Its other symptoms are not desirable either when diving. Alcohol can prevent the REM (Rapid Eye Movement) stage of sleep, the one in which you dream and your brain rests. You may feel tired and un alert from just a few drinks, two qualities not conducive to safe diving. If you do plan on drinking, make every third drink a glass of water. It will reduce dehydration and your chances for a hangover.

  10. What Causes Motion Sickness, Seasickness or Altitude Sickness: In order for the body to determine where it is at all times, the brain combines visual information, touch information, inner ear information, and internal expectations. Under most circumstances, the senses and expectations agree. When they disagree, there is conflict, and motion sickness can occur.
