Motion Facts and Information

  1. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Once you are in the water, drop down below the surface (make sure your buddy knows that this is the plan). The top ten or fifteen feet or so (3 to 4.5 meters), more in rough seas can still have a surge that will have an effect on you. Dropping below that can have a calming effect on your senses (and your stomach).

  2. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Feeling of Nausea

  3. Another treatment for sea sickness or motion sickness is an acupressure wrist band. It applies pressure to a particular point on your wrist, which can prevent the feeling of nausea.

  4. Some people experience nausea and even vomiting when riding in an airplane, automobile, or amusement park ride, and this is called motion sickness. Many people experience motion sickness when riding on a boat or ship, and this is called seasickness even though it is the same disorder.

  5. Approximately 90% of adults will experience motion sickness at some time in their lives. However, it is much more common for children.

  6. Acupressure may reduce symptoms of sea sickness. Use "Sea Bands" as commercially available.

  7. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Have some water and fruit before and between dives. It can help by re-hydrating you.

  8. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness on a boat, stay on deck and avoid going below deck while underway.

  9. The movement of a boat on a fluid sea creates stress in the portions of the brain responsible for balance. Perhaps that stress causes the brain to start malfunctioning as the land based environment it understands is suddenly not behaving, as it should.

  10. Techniques to reduce motion sickness, seasickness, and altitude sickness: Position yourself for the least movement, The lesser the movement while traveling the better, this means asking the driver to slow down while in either a car or bus, sitting near the middle of an airplane or boat. Try and watch the horizon when you are on a boat and get plenty of fresh air even if itís very cold. When in a car try and sit in the front seat looking straight ahead, if you are old enough, drive the car.
