Motion Facts and Information

  1. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness always sit in the front of a vehicle and look out the front window only.

  2. Most cases of dizziness and motion sickness are mild and self-treatable disorders.

  3. To avoid motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Aboard a ship: stay toward the middle and look at the horizon. Avoid ship travel if possible. Stay out of small tight places where you can't see the horizon.

  4. Acupressure may reduce symptoms of sea sickness. Use "Sea Bands" as commercially available.

  5. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Have some water and fruit before and between dives. It can help by re-hydrating you.

  6. There are various prescription and nonprescription drugs available for motion sickness. Some drugs prevent motion sickness and some treat it. You will need to find the one that works best for you.

  7. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Avoid strong odors and spicy or greasy foods that do not agree with you (immediately before and during your travel).

  8. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Abnormal color of skin, especially the face. This loss of color is temporary and is caused by a reduced blood flow to the face and is similar to being in shock, being sick. Once the motion sickness ends the color returns to normal.

  9. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; Ship doctors usually stock medications

  10. To help motion sickness always ride where your eyes will see the same motion that your body and inner ears feel, e.g. sit in the front seat of the car and look at the distant scenery; go up on the deck of the ship and watch the horizon; sit by the window of the airplane and look outside. In an airplane choose a seat over the wings where the motion is the least.
