Motion Facts and Information

  1. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; Avoid strong odors

  2. Some divers as being very effective for sea sickness report eating peppermint in conjunction with ginger. Since mint does have some of the same calmative qualities as ginger, this may be true. Perhaps it is just the belief that it works that is effective. Regardless, it is an inexpensive and pleasant addition. An added benefit is making your breath sweeter.

  3. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness keep children occupied. Have them count cars, boats, etc. or play games.

  4. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness avoid fatty and greasy food several hours before you travel.

  5. Signs and Symptoms of motion sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness; dizziness, paleness, cold sweating, excess saliva production, nausea, vomiting, fatigue or headache.

  6. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness try and get lots of fresh air.

  7. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Once you are in the water, drop down below the surface (make sure your buddy knows that this is the plan). The top ten or fifteen feet or so (3 to 4.5 meters), more in rough seas can still have a surge that will have an effect on you. Dropping below that can have a calming effect on your senses (and your stomach).

  8. SEA Bands for motion sickness can help prevent the unpleasant symptoms of travel sickness.

  9. Acupressure may reduce symptoms of sea sickness. Use "Sea Bands" as commercially available.

  10. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Get plenty of rest before diving. Weariness and exhaustion can make you more susceptible to other things that can bring on motion sickness. Do your gear preparation early the day before diving and take care of other business well before a proper bed time.
