Motion Facts and Information

  1. Some things to remember for sea sickness - Fresh air is good but you want to stay low and to the stern of the boat. That is where you will encounter the least motion. The bow of the boat pounds through the waves, up and down the stern drags through the water. The ride is much smoother. The boat rocks from side to side. The higher you are the more movement you encounter.

  2. There are essentially three strategies to treatment of motion sickness: Behavioral (avoidance, mental activities), Medication (conventional, alternative), Stimulation (alternative)

  3. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Take one of the varieties of motion sickness medicines before your travel begins, as recommended by your physician.

  4. What causes Motion Sickness, sea sickness or altitude sickness: Conflicting Messages, One message or signal comes from the middle (or inner) ear that controls balance and the other message comes from the eyes. During changes in position caused by travel these two signals conflict or disagree. Or seen another way, reading a book the view remains stable while the body is twisted and turned during travel. These two signals end up at the nausea center of the brain and with such confusion is it a surprise that motion sickness is the result.

  5. Seasickness happens when the body, inner ear, and eyes all send different signals to the brain, resulting in confusion and queasiness. It is a problem generally attributed to disturbance in the balance system of the inner ear (vestibular) system. Your sensory perception gets out of synch as these nerve fibers attempt to compensate for the unfamiliar motion of the ship moving through water.

  6. The ReliefBand looks like a plastic wristwatch with an elastic band, but is worn on the inside of the wrist and electrically stimulates the median nerve to relieve motion sickness, altitude sickness or sea sickness.

  7. This is the main symptom of motion sickness and is caused by conflicting messages in the nausea center in the brain. Many who suffer from motion sickness get the first three or four of the symptoms listed here and it makes their trip miserable but not as bad as those who start to vomit.

  8. Symptoms of motion sickness, seasickness or altitude sickness: Feeling Giddy and Faint

  9. The movement of a boat on a fluid sea creates stress in the portions of the brain responsible for balance. Perhaps that stress causes the brain to start malfunctioning as the land based environment it understands is suddenly not behaving, as it should.

  10. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; Eat frequent small quantities of soda crackers
