Motion Facts and Information

  1. If you begin to feel sea sick, or motion sick; if you're not sure you are prone to seasickness, try reading a newspaper while in a moving car. If you have no problem with that, the chances are you should have no problem with ships either.

  2. What Causes Motion Sickness, Seasickness or Altitude Sickness: In order for the body to determine where it is at all times, the brain combines visual information, touch information, inner ear information, and internal expectations. Under most circumstances, the senses and expectations agree. When they disagree, there is conflict, and motion sickness can occur.

  3. There are essentially three strategies to treatment of motion sickness: Behavioral (avoidance, mental activities), Medication (conventional, alternative), Stimulation (alternative)

  4. Massage or other relaxation techniques may help control motion sickness.

  5. For motion sickness or sea sickness: Again, if possible, avoid the cabin and other enclosed spaces. Sometimes, a breezy spot in the sun may be preferable to a shady spot in a stuffy cabin.  The open air and ability to look out over the horizon are often more important than being in a shady spot, which can be stuffy and enclosed, limiting your view of the horizon and perhaps making you more prone to motion sickness.

  6. Motion sickness is nausea and dizziness that occurs when traveling in a moving vehicle such as a car, boat, or airplane.

  7. What Can I Do for Motion Sickness: Take one of the varieties of motion sickness medicines before your travel begins, as recommended by your physician.

  8. Snacks or crackers a little and often during the trip will also help to reduce motion sickness.

  9. To relieve motion sickness or sea sickness try and get lots of fresh air.

  10. Not everyone who suffers from motion sickness feels giddy or faint but a lot still suffer from this symptom.
